Secret Secret technique for open wods

The 2015 Reebok Crossfit Open is just about finished. So many Madathletes leveled up this year. I am super proud of all of the madathletes that put in so much work to improve skills strength speed and mentality.

The super secret technique to the 2016 reebok open is this….

The key to a great season is a great off season.

This trumps all the little magical technique suggestions and ideas.  If your off season didn’t prepare you for all levels of CrossFit, then even the best technique video will not help.

For some of you the season is just beginning…

You have regionals upcoming and the games locked in your sights.

For others this journey has brought you to your off season and the time for evaluation and assessing goals has come. It’s time to make that plan and start working on improving those skills and of course building a bigger motor.

If you don’t have your complete plan put together… you don’t have your coach (everyone needs a coach, even Rich Fronning has a coach), if you don’t have your nutrition plan set, if you don’t have your gymnastic skills, Oly skills, endurance and mobility plans set.  It is time to decide and take action.

Change only comes from taking action.

Dynamic Movement Prep

IMG_1559

MAD Athletes and coaches getting some junk yard dog warm up before the smash.

They method you use to warm up is extremely important.   Too many athletes gloss over the warm up and this will most likely put them at greater risk for injury.  I have heard athletes say “a lion never warms up going for the kill”.  Yep, this is true, but a lion never did a max snatch or “Fran”.

With the proper warm up / dynamic movement prep (DMP), you are preparing your central nervous system for explosiveness, your joints for smooth movement, your muscles for maximum contraction and your mind for the event.  That mental portion can prove valuable when you are competing.   The sheer routine of your warm up can get your mind set for that event and dial in your focus to laser sharp levels.  Now since most of you are not in the gym doing solely slow movements and you get your body to explode quite a bit this DMP is very important.

You are also giving yourself a layer of protection against injury.  There are no guarantees  when it comes to injury prevention but as an athlete you should be doing what you can to stay durable and ready to wod again.

Finally think about this, your movement prep can vary depending on the type of wod you will be doing.  You may need to get that heart rate up quite a bit and recover before the wod or you may not.  Keep that in mind also.

Now.  Go hit it.

Prepare For Your Best Season

IMG_0777

The best strategy for your CrossFit competitive season is an amazing off-season.  You will want to attack those weaknesses and make sure you are anticipating what new movement combinations and skills may come up.  To put yourself in position for success…

Yes, you must make yourself stronger

Yes, you must make yourself more efficient and skilled

Yes, you must make yourself faster

Yes you must test and find the proper nutrient combination for you

Yes you must make yourself more mobile, and more durable

Yes you must make yourself more aerobically efficient

Your stats on strengths and weaknesses should determine how much time and effort you devote to each area but you should hit each area.

You need a coach who works for you and will be honest with you when it comes to how you approach your training, recovery, nutrition, skills and mental approach.  Very few can accomplish these things without the input of a qualified coach to ensure the best possible outcome for you as an athlete.

Get some!

MAD MIKE T. BIRTHDAY!

IMG_1336-0.JPG

Happy Birthday to Mike T. Kick some ass today Dr. Mike

Ok. Check out Braden showing how to throw down some triples. Notice how he keeps his body straight
Head level
Shoulders back
Hands stay low at his side
Jump is just a bit higher
Wrist turnover is faster.

If you don’t have triples. Practice fresh.

Make sure and get that mobi.

Instant mobi

IMG_1267.JPG

Get some instant mobi between sets! No set up needed, no bands, no whips, and no chains.

Motion is lotion so hitting your end range of motion for those joints is ideal for MOST of you. Remember there are always exceptions based on history, injury etc. YOU, the athlete are the CEO of your body and ultimately in charge of its care and upkeep. You should know your body’s sticky points and where you need to put some extra work in.

“tightness inhibits strength”

Now get some swimwod.net going and some mobi!
