The off-season is where your competition season begins.
MAD Athlete Programming works – does yours?

The MAD Coaches work with our Athletes to help meet their fitness goals. Many of those goals are to do well at the CrossFit Open – even if they are not going to Regionals.
The picture above shows just a few of our athlete’s improvement from the 2014 CrossFit Open to 2015 CrossFit Open.
The numbers speak for themselves.
Athletes are made in the off-season. Are you ready to start your off-season now?
The 2015 Reebok Crossfit Open is just about finished. So many Madathletes leveled up this year. I am super proud of all of the madathletes that put in so much work to improve skills strength speed and mentality.
The super secret technique to the 2016 reebok open is this….
The key to a great season is a great off season.
This trumps all the little magical technique suggestions and ideas. If your off season didn’t prepare you for all levels of CrossFit, then even the best technique video will not help.
For some of you the season is just beginning…
You have regionals upcoming and the games locked in your sights.
For others this journey has brought you to your off season and the time for evaluation and assessing goals has come. It’s time to make that plan and start working on improving those skills and of course building a bigger motor.
If you don’t have your complete plan put together… you don’t have your coach (everyone needs a coach, even Rich Fronning has a coach), if you don’t have your nutrition plan set, if you don’t have your gymnastic skills, Oly skills, endurance and mobility plans set. It is time to decide and take action.
Change only comes from taking action.

The open is fast upon us and mad athletes from around the world are taking it on and leveling up each week. As soon as the CrossFit Games website allows for custom leaderboards we will make on for all of the MADathletes competing in the open.
MAD Athletes and coaches getting some junk yard dog warm up before the smash.
They method you use to warm up is extremely important. Too many athletes gloss over the warm up and this will most likely put them at greater risk for injury. I have heard athletes say “a lion never warms up going for the kill”. Yep, this is true, but a lion never did a max snatch or “Fran”.
With the proper warm up / dynamic movement prep (DMP), you are preparing your central nervous system for explosiveness, your joints for smooth movement, your muscles for maximum contraction and your mind for the event. That mental portion can prove valuable when you are competing. The sheer routine of your warm up can get your mind set for that event and dial in your focus to laser sharp levels. Now since most of you are not in the gym doing solely slow movements and you get your body to explode quite a bit this DMP is very important.
You are also giving yourself a layer of protection against injury. There are no guarantees when it comes to injury prevention but as an athlete you should be doing what you can to stay durable and ready to wod again.
Finally think about this, your movement prep can vary depending on the type of wod you will be doing. You may need to get that heart rate up quite a bit and recover before the wod or you may not. Keep that in mind also.
Now. Go hit it.
Lots of amazing things happening with MAD Athletes of all levels. Check the leader board in the right column. Currently there are 3 mad athletes in the top 50 for the South Central Region and 3 Females in the top 60 of the region. Keep it up gang. I think we will have some fun at regionals for sure. All the athletes are ready to kill it for 14.5. Check the custom leader board to your right for details on who some of these MAD Athletes are.

So with the Open in full swing and CrossFit taking the sport of fitness to new levels, Check out how some of our MAD Athletes compare with each other in this custom leader board.
Currently, Amanda Schwartz is sitting 2nd place in the region and she is ready to smash the final two wods. She is an amazing athlete and getting stronger by the day. She smashed 13.3 with 258 reps for a 3rd place finish in South Central Region. Awesome!
MADCAMP II was so awesome I can barely put into words! Our goal was for everyone to leave with so much information overload that their heads were spinning, and maybe a few PRs. These amazing athletes of all levels from a newbie CrossFitter to a CrossFit Games athlete all leveled up their fitness. We brought in the experts…
Dr. Mike Tillman who emphasized that “tightness inhibits strength” as he showed us individual mobility patterns needed for each athlete.
Coach Nikki Isbell, CrossFit games athlete and competitive nutrition guru broke down the pre contest wod meal, post wod meal and every meal for every other day to a scientific calculation. She even told us when the evil dreaded sugar could turn athletes into super athletes.
Coach Wladi and Sammye Montoya dished out some super swim techniques and a great swim wod. The even gave a few newbies some much needed swim lessons and when they were done everyone swam in their swim wod. Smooth like a baby dolphin!
Newly added and newly voted “Best Run Coach in Austin” Valerie Hunt brought her Master Pose techniques and great enthusiasm to the camp. She put the video screen on every single athlete and every single athlete improved in their run technique. Yes, even the fastest ones!
Chad and Jodi Vaughn broke down the technical aspects of each Olympic lift and skill transfer exercises. They applied the movements to a lighter weight metcon as well as that 1 rep max. It was truly awesome.
I went over the programming and how to incorporate that strength into year round work as well as a few “secrets” to improving your core and overall strength. Plus I got to inflict some much needed pain on a few willing athletes. All in all we had a blast and everyone leveled up and learned a ton. Just in time for the CrossFit Season. Next MADCAMP will be in June. Keep checking in here and Facebook for tips and strategies on how to level up your fitness. Keep an eye on some of our MAD ATHLETES in the region also.
